President-elect Trump has selected Elaine Chao as Secretary of Transportation, according to reports. Chao is the former Secretary of Labor under President George W. Bush, as well as the Secretary of Transportation under President George H. W. Bush.
The pick would put Chao in charge Trump’s proposed $1 trillion infrastructure plan. Chao’s experience includes working as deputy administrator of the Maritime Administration during the Reagan Presidency, then as the Federal Maritime Commission from 1988 to 1989.
It is unknown how Chao feels about many emerging technologies in infrastructure, but most of her work at the Heritage Foundation has focused job creation and growth.
