The ARTBA report on bridges lists 55,710 that have been found to be deficient

In the annual American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) report, Iowa was listed as the state with the highest number of bridges in need of repair.

The report found 55,710 bridges across the country that were determined to be deficient. The FHA estimates an annual investment of $20.5 billion over the next 16 years is required in order to repair and replace bridges.

The total number of bridges in need of repair is 2,785 lower than last year’s, but it is a slow pace to maintain, according to the report.
