Syracuse Hancock International Airport Renovation Completed
The exterior of the airport features perforated steel panels to withstand inclement weather, energy-efficient windows, and a new rainwater collection system. Energy-efficient lighting, solar arrays, and a cold weather green roof canopy have been installed.
A $62.4 million renovation of Syracuse Hancock International Airport has been completed, with state, local, and airport officials participating in a ribbon cutting on Nov. 1. "A state-of-the-art airport is vital to regional economic growth and the new Syracuse Hancock International Airport will help usher in a bright future for Central New York," New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said. "The airport builds on the momentum we have already established in the region and will help us attract tourists and businesses from around the world."
"Airports across the state are being transformed with investments to support needed improvements and expansion of services," said Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul. "The completion of the modernization of the Syracuse International Airport features a larger terminal and a new exterior façade, enhancing the overall travel experience for residents and visitors. This project builds off our commitment to build infrastructure in communities and create economic development and tourism opportunities across the state."
The redesigned airport features a terminal that is 14,500 square feet larger than the original structure, with more modern ticketing and baggage handling processes. Two renovated glass pedestrian bridges above the passenger drop-off area give travelers with mobile airline tickets a more efficient route to their flights, allowing them to skip ticket lines, while a Taste NY grab-and-go kiosk will promote New York's food and beverage producers and allow travelers to buy locally made and grown snacks.

The redevelopment project is part of the governor's Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization competition. Elmira Corning Regional Airport, the Greater Rochester International Airport, Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport, Albany International Airport, and the Plattsburgh International Airport are also part of that initiative, which seeks to enhance safety and economic development, improve operations and access, reduce environmental impact, and create a better passenger experience.
